The modern American version of the Black Forest cake has eliminated the use of alcohol almost entirely.

Austrian recipes are shown to use Rum instead of cherry brandy.

– The cake is a no-bake cake as far as the construction goes.

– The only baking that is needed is for the layers of dark chocolate sponge.

– Allow the sponge to cool before slicing.

– Once the sponge is cooled, it is to be sliced and smothered with layers of cherry and flavoured chocolate cream.

– Cream and Brandy ladled cherries are placed on the top as a fruity and tart garnish, usually with a nice decoration of cream on the side of the cake. Do not forget the chocolate shavings on top!
