Japanese Cuisine – Yakitori Yakisoba Class

Japanese cuisine offers a multitude of distinct flavours that harmonise well with the local cultures.

The people of Japan are obsessed with food and offer world-class presentation and service to guests and tourists alike.

We offer a lovely Japanese based cooking class that primarily focuses on the Yakitori and Yakisoba dishes, also known as Japanese Grilled and Skewered Foods

These methods of cooking focus on keeping the tradition alive by using generations old methods of how to prepare, cook, present and serve the dishes within the traditional guidelines.

Yakitori Yakisoba ClassYakitori is a grilled chicken on a skewer.

The bite-sized pieces of chicken are placed onto a bamboo skewer and are typically grilled over charcoal or on a charbroiler.

There are different ways to prepare the chicken meat.

These usually consist of chicken thigh, chicken meatballs, crispy grilled chicken skin, and chicken with spring onion.

Most chefs use these chicken parts for cooking, i.e. the tail, wing, intestine, cartilage, heart, and gizzard.

A yakitori-ya is a traditional small restaurant or food vendor that grills the yakitori over charcoal while the patron enjoys an alcoholic beverage, usually beer or shochu.

Yakitori-ya restaurants are informal, and most young couples often patronise for lunch and dinner.

It’s a place to relax, unwind, and meet with friends.

Yakisoba is a flour based noodle that is similar to ramen. Yakisoba originated in China with its foundation formed from chow mein.

These restaurants serve flavoured noodles with a thick sweetened sauce similar to the oyster sauce.

Making Yakisoba Dishes

Yakitori Yakisoba Class

As the chef prepares the Yakisoba, he fries the flour noodles with cabbage, onions, carrots, and pork, then flavoured with salt pepper and yakisoba sauce.

The chef may add mayonnaise, pickled ginger, fish flakes, or seaweed powder.

Yakisoba can be a main dish or side dish.

This local’s favourite is to layer the yakisoba in a bun, similar to an American hot dog.

Consumers love to add ginger and mayonnaise as condiments.

This dish is called yakisoba-pan. Yakisoba comes with a variety of meats including chicken, ham, pork, and even hot dogs.

When combining yakisoba with yakitori-ya, it can make a wholesome and well-rounded dish.

The protein provided with the yakisoba and the starch and vegetables from the yakitori-ya create a balanced meal that is enjoyable and authentic to the Japanese cuisine style and tradition.
