Eating the Right Combination of Foods

Eating the Right Combination of Foods!

Learning how to cook well and as eating the right combination of foods are both important factors to achieve a better and healthier diet!

Eating the Right Combination of Foods

It seems as each new week brings a new fad diet into the collective consciousness.

Each one comes with its own rules and modifications.

The problem with fad diets is that they are difficult to stick with.

The restrictions become oppressing over time and followers become bored.

But what else can you do to stay healthy and satisfied?

The best way to diet is to not diet at all.

No special restrictions, no extreme modifications, and no banned foods—just a balanced and common sense approach to food.

Avoid nothing.  In fact, eat everything!

Just do so in moderation and be mindful of your food pairings.

Variety is the Spice of Life

When planning your meal or preparing your plate, remember to diversify your choices.  Starch on top of starch?

Too heavy.  Meat on top of meat?  Too difficult to digest?  All green veggies?  Too one-note.

Instead, go for a little bit of everything — moderation being the key.

A protein as the star, a starch to fill you up, veggies that complement the protein and keep you healthy, and a sweet fruit to finish—a perfect combination for a healthy and satisfying meal.

Something Heavy with Something Light

Anytime one of your items is heavy, you should contrast it with something lighter.

If you are serving a sandwich, pair it with springy salad or a healthy veggie stir fry.

Making a beef roast?

Throw some veggies in the oven when it is almost done to cook without oil and bring out their natural flavors.

Balance is the key.

Always Something Green

Green veggies offer the greatest health benefits, so you should always make certain there is something green on your plate.

Veggies offer flavors as robust as any item, so you are not sacrificing taste for health.

Plus, the bright color makes your meal look all the more appealing.

A Veggie and a Fruit

Including a vegetable is obvious when it comes to creating healthy and balanced meals.

However, we often neglect to think about fruits—after all, something so sweet couldn’t be too healthy, right?

While going to heavy on fruits could overload your system with sugar, they offer incredible health benefits that you should not forgo as many fruits are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

A Protein, but not Always a Meat

We need protein to survive and it is a good idea to make sure each meal contains a small amount of protein.

However, too often we immediately correlate protein with meat.

It doesn’t need to be that way.

There are many other sources of protein you could use besides meat.

You could use beans, nuts, tofu, and more.

However, like all things, meat is perfectly healthy when consumed in moderation.

Be Mindful of What You Drink

Finally, always consider what you are drinking with each meal.

Water is always an excellent choice and is vital to your health.

Sodas are never the best choice and should be mostly avoided.

When considering what to drink, look at what you are eating.

Are there a lot of sugars in the meal?  Then skip the juice.

Could you use an antioxidant boost?

Consider some wine.

Even in your drink choice, you should be looking for balance.

Okay, now you have the choice to cook up a healthier diet using the right combination of foods! What say you?
